Two racing circuits

Broadmeadow contains two racing circuits: the main course and the separate Beaumont track. Newcastle Jockey Club publishes individual layouts and record lists for each, so the course name matters when comparing performances. The main-course record series was reset in February 2017, while the archive retains earlier times. A fast performance should therefore be understood in relation to its particular circuit and the period in which it was recorded.

A working training base

Newcastle is a working training centre as well as a racing venue. In 2022, the club announced a project to replace its Pro-Ride exercise surface with Polytrack, supported by Racing NSW. Providing a dependable training alternative was intended to reduce wear on the two grass courses. This synthetic circuit serves daily preparation; it should not be confused with the turf surface used for the venue’s Group 1 racing.
