The Fosters Meadow estate

Belmont Park was developed on land in the Fosters Meadow area, transforming an estate landscape into a major racing venue. Its origins belong to a period when New York’s leading racing figures were creating a more ambitious setting for the sport. The property’s earlier identity remains part of that story. When comparing historical pictures with later buildings, the estate background helps explain why Belmont was conceived on such a substantial scale.

A new chapter in New York

Belmont Park reopened for racing in September 2026 following a major redevelopment. Its new facilities continue a story that began when the founders looked to Europe’s great courses for inspiration. When exploring the archive, keep those changes in mind: photographs of earlier grandstands and races run at temporary host venues belong to different chapters of Belmont’s history.
