Three names, one venue
Parx began as Keystone Racetrack and later became Philadelphia Park after a change of ownership. During that phase, improvements included a turf course and a local television programme presenting the racing. The later Parx name refers to the same Bensalem venue, rather than a newly established course elsewhere.
Smarty Jones’s home
Smarty Jones brought extraordinary attention to his home track during the 2004 Triple Crown campaign, winning the Kentucky Derby and Preakness. That summer, Pennsylvania’s slots legislation was signed in the Philadelphia Park winner’s circle. The episode linked a celebrated horse with a major change in the venue’s business environment.
