Golden Horn

In 2015, John Gosden’s colt took Dettori from victory at Epsom to another triumph in Paris.
Explore EpsomAn extraordinary rider. An unforgettable afternoon.
The flying dismount became his signature. But the celebration was only the final act: first came the judgement, the timing and the partnership with the horse. At Ascot, one September afternoon turned those qualities into racing history.

On 28 September 1996, Dettori won all seven races on the Ascot card. Wall Street started the sequence, Diffident made it two and Mark Of Esteem delivered the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. By the time Fujiyama Crest carried him home in the last race, a successful day had become something without precedent at this meeting.
The achievement was remarkable for its variety. This was an entire racecard, with different horses and different demands, rather than one champion returning to win the same contest. Each ride reset the challenge. Together, they became the Magnificent Seven.
Ascot was not the whole story. The same career would connect Epsom with Paris, and a Derby winner with an exceptional mare. Golden Horn completed the Derby–Arc double in 2015; Enable won the Arc in both 2017 and 2018. Different horses, different races, another reason for the crowd to watch the rider in the saddle.
The showmanship makes those moments easy to remember. The partnerships explain why they matter. Explore the horses below, then hear Dettori revisit his career in the interviews and race films: the decisions, the pressure and the memories behind the celebrations.
