Chez Pierre is the third winner and second stakes winner out of Hortensia (Orpen), who was twice placed. She is also the dam of Zelda (Zelzal), a year younger than Chez Pierre and winner of the Listed Prix Saraca, and of the winning gelding Manhattan Bridge (Olympic Glory). Hortensia is a half-sister to Uraib (Mark of Esteem), winner of the Grade 3 Buena Vista H. in the US, and to the Listed-placed pair Hachico (King's Best) and Hyder (Sir Percy). Another half-sister, the unraced Red Vale (Halling), is the dam of Vale Of York (Invincible Spirit), winner of the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile and a sire, and of the twice Listed-placed Vale Of Kent, and the grandam of Responsibleforlove, a Listed winner in Italy and third in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive Stakes.

Second dam Hamsaat (Sadler's Wells) was a winner. She is a full sister to the sire Batshoof, who won the Prince of Wales's Stakes, then a Group 2, and a half-sister to Regular Guest (Be My Guest), winner of the Stewards' Cup, then a Listed race.

Third dam Steel Habit (Habitat) won twice in Italy. She is a full sister to Ancestral, a Group 3 winner and sire, and a half-sister to the dam of King Of Kings (Sadler's Wells), winner of the Gr.1 2,000 Guineas and the Gr.1 National Stakes and later a sire.

The family also includes General Monarch (Thorn Dance), winner of the Gr.2 Prix Robert Papin and a sire.

In 2021 Hortensia produced a full brother to Zelda, now a two-year-old colt.
