Matareya is one of two winners out of Innovative Idea (Bernardini), a Grade 3 winner. Innovative Idea is a half-sister to Lucullan (Hard Spun), a Grade 2 winner, and to the stakes-placed winners Soft Touch (Uncle Mo) and Embossed (Medaglia d'Oro).

The second dam Golden Velvet (Seeking the Gold) was stakes-placed in France, then won two Grade 3 races and finished second in the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps H. in 2008. She is a half-sister to Sky Mesa (Pulpit), to the Grade 2-placed winners Caressive (A.P. Indy) and Monthir (Gulch), to the winner Velvety (Bernardini) and to the dam of Archimedes, a Group 3 winner in Japan who was Group 2-placed.

The third dam Caress (Storm Cat), a multiple Grade 3 winner, is the dam of Sky Mesa, winner of the Grade 1 Hopeful S. and a sire, and of Velvety, whose son Maxfield (Street Sense) was a multiple Grade 1 winner and sire, ending his career with victory in the Grade 1 Clark H. She is a full sister to the dual Group 3 winner and sire Bernstein and to Country Cat, a Group 3 winner who was Group 1-placed.

Innovative Idea has a two-year-old colt by Uncle Mo and a filly foal by Curlin.
