Hong Kong Int’l Races

Romantic Warrior has made the Hong Kong Cup his own. Danny Shum's horse won the 2,000m feature four years running from 2022 to 2025, and no other horse has won it even three times. James McDonald rode him in all four. The latest came on 14 December 2025, when he beat Bellagio Opera by a length and three-quarters. In between he became the first Hong Kong-trained winner of the Cox Plate, at Moonee Valley in 2023.

Only two horses have won the Hong Kong Mile three times. Golden Sixty joined Good Ba Ba on that mark in December 2023, adding to his earlier wins in 2020 and 2021 at the age of eight. The 2022 running was the one that got away, as California Spangle beat him. Jockey Vincent Ho rode him for his trainer Francis Lui, and he retired with 26 wins from his 31 starts and HK$167,170,600 in prize money across his racing career.

Ka Ying Rising became only the fifth horse to win the Hong Kong Sprint in successive years when he defended his title on 14 December 2025. Falvelon, Silent Witness, Lord Kanaloa and Mr Stunning had done it before him. Zac Purton eased him down late and he still beat Raging Blizzard by three and three-quarter lengths. It was his 16th win in a row for David Hayes, who first won the race with All Thrills Too in 2002.
