From farm to racecourse
Saint-Cloud grew from an estate purchased at auction by owner and breeder Edmond Blanc. He developed the land into a racecourse with substantial grandstands, weighing facilities and planted gardens. The project embraced contemporary technology, including starting gates and a telegraph for transmitting results. Blanc was also the breeder behind the nearby Haras de Jardy.
The Val d’Or plateau
The Val d’Or plateau gives Saint-Cloud a broad, relatively level racing setting. Its left-handed circuit has a long finishing straight, while the turf’s drainage helps the venue stage meetings early and late in the season. France Galop describes it as a place where emerging three-year-olds often begin their campaigns. For a visitor, the expansive view and the chance to see developing horses are part of the course’s character.
