Item is out of Capla Temptress (Lope De Vega), a Grade 1 winner in Canada who also won a graded race in the US and was Group-placed in England. Her victories included the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes and the Grade 3 My Charmer Stakes. Item is her third foal, and her second, Temptable (Kingman), won the Listed Prix Matchem.

Second dam Mrs Beeton (Dansili) won once at three and has one other winner. She is a half-sister to Stotsfold (Barathea), a multiple Group 3 winner who was third in the Grade 1 Arlington Million.

Third dam Eliza Acton (Shirley Heights) won as a two-year-old and produced three other winners, among them Stotsfold.

Younger foals of Capla Temptress are Tympana (St Mark's Basilica), a two-year-old filly yet to race, and a Dark Angel yearling filly.
