The stone-built beginning

Keeneland’s stone buildings grew from a project begun by horseman Jack Keene on land west of Lexington. During the Depression, he agreed to sell part of the property, including his unfinished racing development, to the new Keeneland Association. Construction continued around the existing structures.

A racing library

Keeneland Library preserves the sport beyond its results, with books, photographs, periodicals and special collections covering racing, breeding, art and equine history. It operates as a reference library, allowing visitors and researchers to consult material on site rather than borrow it. Its exhibitions and catalogue provide another way into the racing world.
